She won an Academy Award for the score of Emma, the film based on the classic novel by Jane Austen starring Gwyneth Paltrowin the title role -the first time a female composer took an Academy Award in the category Best Original Score. Rachel Portman also received Academy nominations for the music of Chocolatand The Cider House Rules.
