Born in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1970, Richie Kotzen is an American singer/songwriter and world renowned musician. Considered by many as one of the greatest ever to pick up a guitar, Kotzen possesses the rare talent of adapting his playing style to suit all genres of music from jazz and blues to pop and rock. This ability stemmed from his early years, when at the age of seven Kotzen first took up the instrument, keen to follow in the footsteps of the band Kiss. He spent several years honing his own unique sound and playing style, tirelessly working to perfect the art, and it paid off when he was signed by Shrapnel Records at the age of 19. At 21 Kotzen made the jump to the big-time when he joined the band Poison, and though he found success with their album Native Tongue, he left the band soon after when it was discovered he was having a relationship with another members ex-fiancee. Waiting in the wings was Mr Big, an already well established band, and Kotzen’s arrival only added to their success, performing on the albums Get Over It and Actual Size. When the group disbanded, Kotzen pursued a solo career releasing Change in 2003 and also establishing a recording studio and production company. 2006 produced one of Kotzen’s greatest honours when he was asked to perform as the opening act on the Japanese leg of the Rolling Stones “A Bigger Bang Tour”.
