Ex SOFT MACHINE bass player the late HUGH HOPPER playing as THE HUGH HOPPER BAND recorded this set that was originally released in 1993. While HOPPERS ten years with THE SOFT MACHINE was the period that defined him to many listeners, it is what he has done since that has really shown his capability. From his own intriguing Jazz loop series, to Free Jazz with fellow SOFT MACHINE member ELTON DEAN, and fusion with PHIL MILLERS group, HOPPER’S return to music in the eighties sparked a true creative run which continued right up to his death. This album ALIVE catches him relatively close to when the muse returned to him. A lively document of an artist, truly at the beginning of a new phase in his career.
