KONKORD proudly presents the Swiss formation Dave From Hollywood. Basel natives Sebastian Bolli (vocals, acoustic guitar), Jonathan Gubler (guitar), Marco Nenniger (bass) and David Kerman (drums) are wading up to their ears in the dirty mud of the delta, deeply inhaling the haze of the blues to share their visions with us on their debut-release Wax A Hot One [Konkord 096].
The opening song Heather is a blues-rock smacker if there ever was one. Suborned by a caterwauling harp a slow but hard hitting groove is pounding our ears, acting as a steady bedrock for vocalist Sebastian Bolli aka Sebuc?ki, who owns all known tools of his trade: he’s howling, crooning, croaking and preaching ... Jon Spencers ears’d sparkle with joy.

No doubt Mr. Spencer would like the sound of this recording, too. It’s raw straightness is owed to the live recording veteran and appraised austrian analog producer Thomas Pronai. It took Dave From Hollywood just one day to record their debut – fast paced and still hyped after nishing their rst austrian tour. The suction of the blues, the power of rock and the spirit of punk – it’s all here.

Shut The Fuck Up, another outstanding song, feels like riding a comfy magic carpet. At rst. But don’t be misled: after an reassuring start the song cuts a sudden corner into a dark forest cobbled with magic mushrooms, leading to a – you’ve guessed it – freak out in a rout of cucarachas, sur n’ birds and whatever else you see when you see what you want to see.

A fair hint of unpredictability (or is it mania?) ranks rst on Dave From Hollywoods to-be-list. A jazz trained upright bass player plucking hardrock tunes, a drummer uniting prog with punk, a guitarist who knows more tunes than a con artist knows excuses, and a singer who – like an ever-changing mephistopheles – is averse to playing his part, any part. You just can’t tie ’em down! And you’d be ill-advised if you tried. Sit back and rejoice instead. There are 8 damn good reasons on this album to do exactly that.
